University of Alberta  Skin Cancer Awareness Network (U of A SCAN)

UofA Skin Cancer Awareness Network (UofA SCAN) is an initiative that strives to build a network of educators and health advocates. The goal of this initiative is to collaborate with the Canadian Skin Cancer Foundation (CSCF) to promote awareness about skin cancer and the importance of sun safety to the youth. As a part of this program, volunteers (also known as Sun Safety Ambassadors) at UofA deliver presentations on sun safety and skin cancer to elementary school students, which provides youth with the tools that they need to stay safe in the sun. Volunteers are trained and supported by the staff at CSCF, who provide all the necessary resources needed to promote awareness about sun safety. This initiative is a great opportunity for volunteers to engage with students in grades 4, 5, and 6 and practice advocacy skills.
