The Birkebeiner Ski Race Medical Team

Are you interested in emergency medicine? Wilderness medicine? Sports medicine? Just enjoy being outside? Lucky for you we at Birkie have it all covered! The Birkebeiner is Western Canada’s premier nordic ski event, being one of just three Birkebeiner Loppets in the world. It attracts thousands of skiers over the event weekend in mid February (this year on Feb 10, 2024) and our job at the UofA is to assist with first aid. Volunteering with Birkie involves organizing first aid stations, providing basic care as necessary for skiers, and arranging for any ambulance requirements. Join us for a day spent with fun and outdoorsy folks in the picturesque Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Park and help ensure a world-renowned sporting event runs as topnotch as possible!
