Are You Post Call?

The “Are You Post Call” travel reimbursement program is a unique student-driven initiative that has been proudly serving the U of A clerks for the past five years.

This initiative is aimed to increase student health and wellness for those in clerkship years. The foundation of the program is modelled after PARA’s Taxi Reimbursement Program, where residents can prioritize safety and use taxi services to safely return home after 24-hour call shifts. Driving when sleep deprived is a primary concern in the medical community, as there is an increased risk for motor vehicle collisions. Thus, creation of the “Are you Post-Call?” Reimbursement Program for medical clerks will help to promote personal and public safety.

Medical clerks (Yr 3 and 4) are scheduled to complete call shifts for up to 26 hours during certain rotations. For these shifts, we would like to reimburse students who feel as though they may be driving impaired, for taxis or ride sharing services (e.g. Uber) that may be used to arrive safely home. Clerks who are eligible will be those who have completed a 24-26hr call shift and will submit a reimbursement form with electronic receipts and their call schedule.
