Accessibility and Inclusivity in Medicine (AIM)

The purpose of the Accessibility and Inclusivity in Medicine (AIM) Club is to increase medical student’s awareness, empathy, and knowledge for people with neurodiverse conditions, hearing/visual loss, as well as physical differences. This club is focused on clinical skill development, in order to address the lack of curricular emphasis on these aforementioned groups. We will host lunch talks and speaker panels that include interdisciplinary health care professionals, educators, patients, and families. We will also provide clinical skill development opportunities for students through workshop series, and resource guides for clinical use. Finally, we will advocate for the inclusion of these patient populations in future communication & physical exam sessions via curriculum changes. Topics we would like to explore include: inclusive language in medicine, experiences of patients/families, perspectives/misconceptions, experiences of medical professionals who identify as a member of these groups, ASL in a clinical context, and accessible health-care facility design.
