Find lists of CIL-approved courses by clicking on “Courses” in the left menu bar.
Course claims are automatically generated in the CIL online portal. However, to trigger a search for courses that count toward the CIL, you must visit your course credit page. Claims will only be generated and approved for courses where credit has been awarded (i.e. you will not see a course claim if you have not finished the course). Once a course claim has been generated, it may show in yellow. This means that an administrator still needs to review and approve your claim. Once approved, your course will show as green. If denied, the course will show as red.
If you took a course that is not on our list of CIL-approved courses, but you think it should count, please contact us at cil@ualberta.ca. Please include a course syllabus along with your request. Note: We use the following criteria when evaluating courses:
Is the course a 200-level course or higher? 100 level courses will not be considered.
Is the focus or content of the course international or intercultural in nature? The course must satisfy a 50% international/intercultural content threshold.
If the course explores theories or ideas that originated from other parts of the world, are these theories or ideas considered in the regional or cultural context from which they came? Courses that explore thinkers but not the regional or cultural influences that shaped their ideas will not be approved.
If you took a globally-oriented course while abroad that transferred to U of A, you may request that the course count toward the CIL. Contact us at cil@ualberta.ca. Please include a course syllabus and evidence of credit transfer along with your request.
