About Us

The Children's Environmental Health Clinic (ChEHC) was founded in 1999 by Dr. Harold Hoffman and Dr. Irena Buka, as part of the PEHSU (Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units) network in North America, as the first such program in Canada. (previously named PEHSU Canada)

Opportunity arose for support through provincial health care funding and in the early years our very limited resources were directed towards patients referred with environmentally related concerns. Education of health professionals and the community soon became a priority. More recently, along with the development and growth of the unit the Clinic initiated the development of a multifaceted research component that is supporting the clinical and educational components.
