The primary method of evaluation in this course is an exam worth 100% of the grade, alongside an optional midterm exam or assignment.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Employment law concerns the legal relationships between employees and employers at work. This
course engages the basic constitutional framework governing the regulation of employment in
Canada. Focusing especially on employment law in Alberta, this course introduces students to the
various statutory regimes governing the employment relationship, canvasses emerging areas in
employment law as a result of changing modes of work, and explores the most common areas of
litigation involving employees and employers such as contract formation, wrongful dismissal,
constructive dismissal, duties of good faith, damages, confidential information, restrictive covenants,
and human rights in the workplace.
