Rylee Valdez
A native of Montana, Rylee was interested in science from a very young age. She moved to Texas during her senior year of high school and decided to attend Texas Woman's University. Although moving across country was quite a change, she felt at home at TWU. It was there that her passion for science and the medical field was further ignited, and she obtained her Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry in 2019. During her time at Texas Woman's University she participated in undergraduate research in both the chemistry and biology departments. She also served in leadership roles as student President of Kappa Epsilon Mu, the student chapter of the American Chemical Society, and the student President of the student chapter of the American Society for Microbiology. As a first generation college student Rylee is very passionate about mentorship and instilling confidence in women who decide to enter the STEM field. Following graduation she has worked in various specialties in the medical field which inspired her to pursue a nursing degree. Rylee will return to Texas Woman's University in January 2023 to attend upper division nursing school in Dallas. When she is not caring for patients, she likes to spend her time hiking, reading, and checking out local artisan markets in the DFW area.
Texas Woman's University graduate student, Sara Colion, interviews Rylee on her journey to chemistry and beyond.
