Historically, women have been notably underrepresented in the fields of chemistry and biochemistry. Though the number of women participating in these sciences has been increasing over recent years, there is still a great need for improvement. In order to encourage women to engage in these fields, we must create a culture where women feel safe to explore their intellectual curiosity. We need to develop environments where women are supported and encouraged to pursue educational pathways in science. We need to identify and remove barriers that could deter women from entering related career paths. Further, we should provide as many relatable role models and mentors as possible for the rising generation of young women interested in the chemistry and biochemistry disciplines.
