Meet Amanda Kerr, a PhD student in Rhetoric and the new Graduate Assistant in Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship in the Faculty Commons. Amanda will be working closely with Nancy Chick (Executive Director of Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship) on broader faculty development and SoTL initiatives, while also helping Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) develop in their teaching and make strides in their careers as future faculty members.
Amanda will offer consultations with GTAs from any discipline to troubleshoot, innovate, and explore effective teaching strategies. She's also developing some programming and collecting information about support for GTAs at TWU.
Amanda brings to the Faculty Commons several years of teaching and tutoring experience, as well as a background in pedagogical research. For her expertise in teaching, Amanda won the J. Dean Bishop Excellence in Teaching Award while working with TWU’s First-Year Composition program. In addition, Amanda won the Embedded Writing Consultant of the Year Award for her work as an embedded tutor in corequisite writing. Amanda’s research interests include teaching for writing transfer, learning dispositions, corequisite writing and open-admissions institutions, first-year writing, faculty development, the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), academic labor, and academic well-being.
