This fall’s one-day faculty writing retreat will be held on Tuesday, December 15 (8:30am-4pm), just steps from the Denton campus* — at TWU’s Cottage Street House.
Whether you’re drafting, revising, planning, or simply trying to make space for thinking-on-the-page, this will be a day designed to support the kind of writing that’s hard to fit into the regular rhythm of the semester.
My goal with this retreat is simple: to create the conditions for sustained, meaningful writing time in a setting that feels both focused and restorative. No pressure, no productivity theater—just time, space, and intention.
The retreat will offer a balance of structure and flexibility, with generous blocks of quiet writing time, light framing to help you get started or unstuck, and the opportunity to write alongside colleagues who also value protected time for scholarly and creative work.
The Cottage Street House offers a place to step away from everyday routines, settle in, and reconnect with your writing. As the semester winds down, I hope this day will provide some breathing room to return to a project that’s been waiting for attention.
Register here by Nov 15. Notifications will be sent on Dec 1. Since space is limited, if you register and then learn that you're unable to attend, please make space for others by emailing me (nchick@twu.edu) with your cancellation.
* Dallas and Houston faculty, you are more than welcome, but the Faculty Commons isn’t able to cover travel expenses to Denton. I’m still exploring how to host writing retreats for Dallas and Houston faculty and am eager for recommendations for appropriate spaces convenient to faculty on those campuses. Can you help me help faculty on these campuses?
