Standards:
TTESS Dimension 2.2 Content Knowledge and Expertise. The teacher uses content and pedagogical expertise to design and execute lessons aligned with state standards, related content and student needs.
INTASC Standard #4: Content Knowledge. The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.
INTASC Standard #5: Application of Content. The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.
Standard Interpretation:
The teacher will use prior knowledge of content specific information to form and execute lessons based on state standards to cater to student needs, to create a variety of learning experiences to make content easy to understand and meaningful to different learners to ensure full grasp of the content, and to challenge students to think critically, use creativity, and collaborate new ways of thinking to address in their surrounding community and the world at large.
The sample lesson plan provided is for 4th graders during the 2nd 6 weeks, as dictated by the lesson sequence in planning for instruction. The lesson plan has 5 separate age appropriate and engaging activities stating the objectives, TEKS, materials, procedure, and evaluation. This shows a variety of content being taught in accordance with state standards to cater to different student needs in easy to understand format to ensure learning.
