Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

In an ever-changing, increasingly complex world, it is more important than ever that our nation's youth are prepared to utilize knowledge and skills to solve problems, make sense of information, and to gather and evaluate evidence to assist with making decisions. These are the kinds of skills that students develop in science, technology, engineering, and math—disciplines collectively known as STEM. According to the U.S. Department of Education, “If we want a nation where our future leaders, neighbors, and workers have the ability to understand and solve some of the complex challenges of today and tomorrow, and to meet the demands of the dynamic and evolving workforce, building students' skills, content knowledge, and fluency in STEM fields is essential.” STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators.

In keeping with the global STEM initiatives and in response to the increasingly technology-driven job market, the Township of Union Public School District is excited to offer a STEM Academy program of study for our high school students. The purpose of the STEM Academy is to provide our students with a solid foundation in the core STEM subjects. In doing so, it will better prepare students for post-secondary college and career plans, as well as equip them with the skills necessary to compete in this global society.
