OKLAHOMA ACADEMIC STANDARDS

Standard 3: Critical Reading and Writing Students will apply critical thinking skills to reading and writing.

Standard 4: Vocabulary Students will expand their working vocabularies to effectively communicate and understand texts.

Standard 5: Language Students will apply knowledge of grammar and rhetorical style to reading and writing.

Monday, January 8, 2018:

Objectives: Students will practice recognizing homophones with class lecture, video, and printable activity. Students will be asked to read through sentences and circle the number of the sentences that use homophones correctly. Students will become acquainted with the works of William Shakespeare.

Assignments: Worksheet on homophones. Students complete each sentence by choosing the correct homophone and writing it in the blank. Begin reading A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM from the book TALES OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE: THE COMEDIES. These Shakespeare stories have been adapted for middle school students and their reading levels.


Tuesday, January 9, 2018:

Objectives: : Students will practice recognizing homophones with class lecture, video, and printable activity. Assignments: 3rd worksheet on homophones Students identify misused homophones in the story and write the correct spelling which should have been used.. Begin reading THE MERCHANT OF VENICE from the book TALES OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE: THE COMEDIES. These Shakespeare stories have been adapted for middle school students and their reading levels.


Thursday, January 11, 2018:

Objective: Students will expand vocabulary and improve ability to draw relevant inferences.

Assignments: Worksheets-Determining Feelings; Discovering Meaning Through Context and Using Cloze Reading (From THE MERCHANT OF VENICE.)


Friday, January 12, 2018:

Objective: Students will expand vocabulary and improve ability to draw relevant inferences.

Assignments: Evaluating What You Read (The Merchant of Venice): Read each of the story situations below. Decide whether you agree or disagree with what the character said, did, or thought about the situation. Then explain why you feel as you do.
