At Tuckswood we strive to instil a love of reading in all through a rich reading education and exposure to a wide variety of books and authors. We aim to create a life-long love of reading and increase the children’s own aspirations. Our children are taught to read using phonic skills through the systematic teaching of phonics using the RWI scheme. We use phonetically decodable books to develop decoding and fluency skills with a variety of other texts being used to extend and deepen learning and range of vocabulary. Through our whole class reading sessions, our children are provided with opportunities to enjoy reading and for high quality discussion with their peers and adults.
Subject Enrichment
It is important that children have regular access to a wide range of books and as part of the children love visiting our school library. We regularly update the books in the library with new books. Additionally we have links with the local library and each class visits once a term.
