what does being first nations/indigenous mean to me?
being first nations is truly a beautiful gift
from the creator (Na'ta)
I believe that through song, prayer and dance, learning to speak our language (Tsuut'ina Gunaha, blackfoot, stoney (ichitonishina) cree (Nishina). we can all become connected to Mother earth (?inoo nisk'agulaga) and the beautiful teachings life has to offer, we've survived many years keeping our language and culture alive and thriving. it is of great importance for our people to gain a sense of identity of who we are, our traditions teach us the values and responsibilities that help us with our families and ourselves.
I'll continue to greatly encourage the youth to embrace our culture and the ways of life as this is who we are and it truly is a beautiful way of life and full of blessings and opportunities

Physical health is just as important as our mental health. A rule I always like to follow is, "healthy body, creates a healthy mind!"
If we are active, our bodies continuously release endorphins. before and after exercise. Endorphins helps us to feel happy, and being happy, helps us treat others with kindness and gives us an open mind to learning.
stay active, stay healthy, stay kind, and work hard. :)

Anxiety is our bodies natural response to stress or fear. As our lives have changed dramatically since COVID19 and our "normal" along with our everyday routines have been forced to change. It is very important that we are taking care of our mental health during this time as it can be over whelming. The following are some signs of how we can recognize anxiety within our bodies.
upset stomach
not sleeping
hard time concentrating
not eating or overeating
becoming angry very easily
muscles becoming very tense
fidgeting more than usual
overthinking or having negative thoughts
Everyone experiences anxiety in different forms. What is important is to recognize that feeling and find a healthy coping strategy for our body to feel happy again :-)
It can improve our sleep patterns, enhances endorphins, better energy and mood, increased brain function, increase self-esteem and overall physical health.
eats lots of fruits and vegetables
drink plenty of water
try to avoid sugar drinks when possible
although enjoy the sweet snack in moderation, aka such as brownies :-)
Rule of Thumb: What we put into our body is what will show on the outside. Making choices to keep our bodies healthy is a ongoing skill to practice.
FYI: Challenge yourself and do this everyday for a month straight. Once the exercises start to become easier, add more reps. Enjoy the benefits of exercise!!!
