The Youngest Honourasy Rotarian in Towcester Rotary Club

At our Thursday 4th September meeting Rtn Melissa visited the Club with Ted James Anthony, her new bouncy baby boy, who was born on Sunday, 24th August. At the meeting, he was 11 days old and was made an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Towcester, bringing down the average of the Club quite considerably.

Rtn Melissa who works in the Healthcare Industry was a 2024 RYLA candidate, sponsored by the Towcester Club and was sent on this life changing course to Grafham Water. She says the experience was life changing, giving her so much more confidence in dealing with people, an important perquisite in her career. Melissa returned from the RYLA course a different person and decided to join the Towcester Club along with her fellow RYLA candidate Rtn Tom.

Both glowing examples of Young Rotary in Action.

Honorary Ted was well received at the meeting and kept his cool when being presented with his Honorary Certificate and is being considered as a RYLA Candidate in 2043.

The Club wished Rtn Melissa and Hon Rotarian Ted all the best for the future.

Becket Derby Day

It’s not all about raising money, Rotarians can have fun as well as supporting other clubs and raising money at the same time. The Rotary Club of Towcester attended the Becket ‘Derby Day’ organized by the Rotary Club of Northampton Becket at the Horton ‘Race Course’, well 6 painted lanes about 10 metres long in a field. Anyone could enter and be a ‘jockey’, ‘owner’ or ‘trainer’, you could even sponsor a race! with a guest apprearence of our District Governor Moria Penny.

The going was good to firm despite early morning rain, however the course was under cover which helped. Down the course there were a number of jumps that jockeys had to negotiate. With 6 horses per race luckily there were no fallers.

The Becket Club provided an excellent BBQ prepared and cooked by Rtn Terry and his team. There was also a bar providing liquid refreshments, a raffle and a Blind Auction.

The event attracted over 80 participants including the District Governor Rtn Moira and Assistant District Governor Rtn Dawn.

It is congratulations to Northampton Becket who raised over £6k for their charity in Malawi and towards another ambulance to the Ukraine and a fun afternoon was had by all.

Presidential Handover 2025/2026

Thursday 26 CHANGING OF THE GUARD! - Well changing of the President. On a balmy Thursday evening, members of the ROTARY CLUB of TOWCESTER witnessed the handing over of the Club's Presidency for 2025/26 from Rtn Colin Bain to Rtn John Sidwick at a ceremony attended by over 40 members and guests at the ARTea Room in Potterspury.

The evening included the award of the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship to Annie Simpson for her work in managing the Towcester Toy Bank. A charity that provides toys to over 250 needy children at Christmas who live in the Towcester and District. One of the local charities that is supported by the Rotary Club of Towcester.

In addition there was a report on the recent visit to the Rotary International Convention in Calgary, Canada from the Club's representative, Rtn Conrad Dower.

The strength of Rotary is global, but we are dedicated to supporting people and organisations within the Towcester and District. If you would like to become a member or indeed find out more about what you can do in the local community, then why not come along to one of our meetings, usually on a Thursday evening at the Saracens Head Hotel, Towcester.  Contact us for further details by sending an email to secretary@towcester-rotary.org.uk or by visiting our web site at www.towcester-roatry.org.uk
