Towcester Rotary Club Twinning Jan / Feb 2026

Towcester Rotary club are in the process of “twinning” with the Rotary Club of Willich, in Germany. This will involve an interchange of ideas and a close relationship.

Rotary Club Willich was founded in 2005 - the year of Rotary International's 100th birthday. Willich is a town with a population of about 50.000 people, it is situated in between Düsseldorf, Mönchengladbach and Krefeld. Like Towcester the Willich Club is a very active, with a good social atmosphere and involvement in many projects, both local and international, actively helping those less fortunate than themselves.

The relationship started with a chance meeting of a Rotarian from each club on board a ship on the Adriatic Sea, followed by interclub “Zoom” meetings. Currently we are the putting together their first visit, in January 26, consisting of a large group of Willich Rotarians for a long weekend in Towcester, when they will attend the “Towcester Proms”, plus a whole range of other places of interest.

Members of the Rotary club of Willich arrive on Friday evening 30th January 2026, our normal Thursday meeting that week moves to the Saturday evening (at the Saracens), during the day on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday they will be visiting places of interest in and around Towcester. They attend the Proms on Sunday evening, On Monday evening they fly home.

A group of Towcester Rotarians plans to visit Willich later in the year.

More details will follow shortly However more Information from        Roy Bricknell <royajbricknell@gmail.com>

THE SHELTERBOX CHARITY - One of Rotary's charities is SHELTERBOX...What is that I hear you think. Well what would you do if you lost everything and I mean everything. Your home, your belongings, your security, whether it be a natural disaster such as a flood, earthquake or volcano, or perhaps a man made one such as a war or other governmental conflict like a civil war, leaving you and your family homeless, without any shelter or means of rebuilding.

Well the first thing is to get you and your family undercover, provide bedding, means of cooking and basic tools. Over that past 25 years this is what the Rotary charity, ShelterBox has been doing and in that time over 3 million people have been helped in around 100 countries worldwide. Wherever there is a disaster ShelterBox is prepared and ready to help. Globally in predetermined locations, Shelterboxes are stored ready for immediate issue to the places where they are needed.

This is an example for the Towcester Clubs global commitment, but does not detract from it's main commitment to the community in and around Towcester.

A Shelterbox quote..."Together with your support, we were able to make a huge difference to so many lives around the world. By working together with Rotary, our combined resources mean we can support more communities in need of shelter after a disaster."

In addition to maintaining an interest in the local community, each Rotary Club has a commitment to overseas charities that are transparent and free of governmental interference. The Rotary Club of Towcester has the resources to honour this commitment and has just been awarded a Bronze Level Partner certificate in recognition of the club's support in 2024/25 by sending a donation of £2,000

Well done "Becket Rotary Club"  Lots of hard work and Logistical work to put this Project together. This was a Joint project with many Rotary Clubs in Northampton as per this Plaque.

The Rotary Foundation allows joint projects using funds and Matching Grants. from District and International Funds to which all Rotary Clubs contribute,  such a powerful tool for these  projects

24th OCTOBER - ROTARY WORLD POLIO DAY - This is the day that Rotary celebrates it's ongoing fight against POLIMYELITIS or more commonly known as Polio. Some of us are old enough to remember the iron lungs, a gigantic piece of equipment that aided those suffering from this debilitating disease to breathe.

The Rotary Club of Towcester

Each year you will see beds of purple crocus flowers around the town These have been planted by the Rotary Club of Towcester in recognition of the 'Purple4polio' campaign.

PLEASE SUPPORT US

There are two countries where this is still considered to be of pandemic proportions - Pakistan and Afghanistan.

100% of the monies raised by Rotary through the selling of crocus corms are matched 2 for 1 by the Bill Gates Foundation and each year Rotary plans mass inoculations of children around the globe.

A picture of the past, but now thanks to an initiative by Rotary 35 years ago and with the aid of the Bill Gates Foundation and WHO, this disease has all but been eradicated from around the world.

OCTOBER IS ROTARY POLIO MONTH - Since 1985, Rotary’s key humanitarian priority has been to rid the world of polio. Polio is a virus which affects children under five and causes paralysis and even death. Rotary spearheaded the campaign at a time when there were over 1,000 cases a day in 125 countries.

Over the last 35 years, Rotary members, working with communities around the world, have contributed more than US$2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to the fight to end polio.

Because of the efforts of Rotary and our partners, nearly 19 million people who would otherwise have been paralysed are walking, and more than 1.5 million people are alive who would otherwise have died.

Rotary members in Great Britain and Ireland have been huge supporters of End Polio Now and you can be part of making history. Get involved today, For more information contact the Rotary Club of Towcester. Send an email to secretary@towcester-rotary.org.uk.

Dear Rotarians,

As a celebration of all your activities in the past Rotary year, I wanted to offer my thanks on behalf of ShelterBox for the amazing fundraising that you have carried out with your community and as a club.  According to our records*, the Rotary Club of Towcester raised a total of £2,000 in Rotary year 2023/2024.

Congratulations on becoming a Bronze Partner Club!

To say thank you and to acknowledge the efforts of clubs, we award Partner Clubs certificates each year. There are four Partner Club levels, linked to how much you donate: Bronze - £2,000; Silver - £4,000; Gold - £6,000, and Platinum - £10,000.

I have attached a Bronze Partner Club digital certificate that you may wish to display on your club’s website and Facebook page, along with an award graphic that may suit a website side column or email signature, and the digital version of our Rotary Year Impact Report. Your club is also listed on our website, where you can find out more about ShelterBox Partner Clubs: www.shelterbox.org/partnerclubs

Thank you again for your continued support of our vital work to ensure that no-one is left without shelter after disaster. It’s only thanks to generous individuals and clubs such as yourselves that we can make the necessary commitment to supporting communities as they recover and rebuild their lives.

We hope to enjoy an ongoing and impactful partnership with your club into the future.

With best wishes,
