WHAT DOES A FIVE YEAR OLD CARER DO ON HER DAY OFF? - She doesn't have a day off! She is on duty every day looking after a family member. Young child carers miss so much when growing up, balancing their education with caring and being a child. But for one day a year the Rotary Club of Towcester treats young carers from the Towcester/Brackley/Northampton district to a day at Gullivers Land in Milton Keynes. Where they can relax and be children having fun on the rides, meeting other young carers and making friends.

Over 30 young children between the ages of 5 and 11, along with their Care Managers from Northamptonshire Young Carers started their day with a bus trip provided by KIS Coaches Northampton, who transported them to and from MK.

The Rotary Club of Towcester is dedicated to helping to relieve the seriousness of growing-up for these young child carers who accept their duty to their families without complaint.

SAILABILITY - Each year, the Rotary Club of Towcester sponsors Towcester and District young carers aged between 11 and 17 for a day’s sailing in various types of boats at Pitsford Reservoir, north of Northampton. This year 17 young adults experienced sailing giving them a break from their caring duties which they undertake without complaint, looking after a disabled member of their family, whether it be a parent or sibling, which denies them the normal childhood the majority of us experience.

The day also included a lunch and at the end, a dip in the water, a relief during these hot days. The day started with nervous young adults, but they soon got to know each other and ended up exchanging contact details, meaning friendships were formed.

Sailability is a Rotary sponsored charity giving young carers the chance to be children. At the end of August, the Towcester Club will be taking over 30 very young carers to Gulliver's Land in Milton Keynes, treating the under 11-year-olds (some as young as 7), to a day in the theme park. From previous years the children really enjoy themselves, letting off steam and making memories.

ANOTHER MONTH,  ANOTHER MEN'S CLUB AT Brook House care home. Part of the Rotary Club of Towcester's commitment to the local community is the Men's Club at Brook House Care Home in Towcester.  New Rtn Stewart and Rtn Howard seen here with Julie from reception, spent an afternoon  meeting with some of the male residents to reminisce about days gone by.
