BIG TOWCESTER TIDY UP - 20th - 21st September.

A BIG THANK YOU - from the Rotary Club of Towcester to all those who attended the BIG TOWCESTER TIDY UP over the weekend.

Nearly 30 volunteers turned up between the Recreation Ground on Saturday and the Watermeadows/Church Yard/The Mound on Sunday, volunteers of families, young adults and even the Towcester Scout groups attended. Together they collected over 14 bag-fulls of general rubbish and 2 bags of recycle.

It is interesting to note that the amount of rubbish collected over the Club's biannual collections is reducing. A positive sign that people of Towcester are becoming more aware of the need to protect the environment and keep the town clean.

So thank you all.

This is a Rotary Club of Towcester initiative in the community. If you would like to know more about what the Rotary Club is involved with in the Town and District, why not come along to one of our meetings without any obligation. We meet on a Thursday evening, usually at the Saracens Head Hotel. So in the first instance, please send an email to secretary@towcester-rotary.org.uk. For further information visit the Club's web site www.towcester-rotary.org.uk, where you will discover more about the many facets within the Club.

Rotary in Action - Ukraine Aid

In response to Steve Challen of the Tove Benefice and an Honoury Towcester  Rotarian, over 30 volunteers from the Rotary Club of Towcester, the Silverstone WI, partners and friends from Towcester, Silverstone, Milton Keynes and Aylesbury, gave up a Saturday to help load a lorry with medical equipment from the now closed residential care home, Clare House in Silverstone. The lorry was thankfully much larger than expected, as it was filled with over 8 tons of useful items and is now on its way to Ukraine’s national eye hospital and an orphanage in Odessa.

The equipment from the 21-bed care home had been very kindly donated by Mr and Mrs Popat, the previous owners.

Thanks also goes to HELP UKRAINE and BAMK UK, who between them organised the transport.

The items are now in their way to Odessa in the far south of Ukraine, an area where there is great need. The items will mainly benefit the Ukraine National eye hospital, equivalent to London Moorfields, and an orphanage whom the MK Ukraine Team have a strong link.

And a huge thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard to clear the 21-bedroom home of anything useful. With the lorry being over 80% full, the driver called in at Towcester to collect further equipment that had been donated, leaving no room to spare, in fact there are items left over for future transport.

~This is an example of the ongoing commitment by The Rotary Club of Towcester in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Northampton Becket and the Diocese of Peterborough, aiding those wounded or impacted by the war in the Ukraine. So much medical equipment has been lost in the conflict, equipment that needs urgent replacement, not only for the military wounded but also the civilian population.

 ~

This task could not have been achieved without the coming together of individuals and teams, and once again demonstrates the power of Rotary individuals playing their part.

Tuesday 26th August.

FUN AT GULLIVER'S LAND - The Rotary Club of Towcester sponsored nearly 40 young carers from Towcester, Brackley and Northampton to a day out at Gulliver's Land, Milton Keynes. This was organised by Northampton Carers who manage the young carers in the district and give them support.

These are children between the ages of 7 and 11, who look after or care for a member of their family, be it parent or sibling. Time taken out of their lives when they should be enjoying growing up as a child.

The day was full of fun and enjoyment as was witnessed on the face of each child as they went from ride to ride. A lot of smiles, lots of laughter and lots of giggles in an environment that they very rarely experience.

This is an annual event sponsored by the Rotary Club of Towcester and part of the Club's commitment to youth in the community.

If you would like to get involved in Rotary in Towcester  and would like to know more, then you are invited to one of our meetings where you will find a friendly welcome. We meet on a Thursday evening at the Saracens Head Hotel, Towcester. Please send an email to secretary@towcester-rotary.org.uk for further details or visit www.towcester-rotary.org.uk

What a fantastic project this was and was reported in much of the Local media.

This would not be possible without the generosity of the local community and the fundraising efforts of our Club members and amazing Friends of Rotary .

TOWCESTER Church of England PRIMARY SCHOOL GARDEN MAKE -OVER - Staff Members of Towcester C of E Primary School have started a summer make-over by  installing an unusual garden for the children featuring over 100 used car tyres.

Well done members of staff, a tremendous effort and a great project to be undertaken for when the children return in September. We are sure it will be appreciated.

The Rotary Club of Towcester provided the transport and a group of volunteers from both the school and the Rotary Club transported the tyres to the school ready for installation.

This is another example of how Rotary enjoys getting involved in the local community. So if you are interested in knowing more about Rotary and the Rotary Club of Towcester in particular,
