ホーム ー Google Workspace EN ー START GUIDE
This guide explains how to sign in to Google Workspace and get started for the first time.
Tohoku University provides Google Workspace for Education, including email, online storage, and other services.
Google Workspace can be accessed from computers and smartphones, both on and off campus, as long as you have an internet connection.
To use Google Workspace, you need a Google account provided by Tohoku University.
Faculty and Staff: Tohoku University Mail (TUMail) — @tohoku.ac.jp
Students: DCMail — @dc.tohoku.ac.jp
Your Tohoku University ID and Google account are managed by separate authentication systems.
Tohoku University ID: Used to sign in to various university systems.
Google Account: Used to sign in to Google Workspace services, such as Gmail and Google Drive.
Passwords and multi-factor authentication settings are also managed separately for these two systems.
For Students
Please check your account information on the Tohoku University ID Confirmation Page.
For Faculty and Staff
Please check your Tohoku University ID Notification or other relevant documents for the information required to sign in.
Follow these steps to start using Google Workspace.
Use a separate browser profile for your university account (recommended for computers).
Sign in to Google Workspace.
Set up Two-Step Verification (2SV).
When using Google Workspace on a computer, we recommend using separate browser profiles for your university and personal Google accounts.
Separate browser profiles allow you to manage your signed-in accounts, bookmarks, browsing history, and other settings independently.
This helps prevent mistakes, such as sending emails from the wrong account or saving and sharing files using the wrong Google Drive account.
For instructions on creating browser profiles, see:
Note: Using separate browser profiles is recommended but not required to use Google Workspace.
Note: On shared computers, separate browser profiles alone do not prevent other users from accessing your information. Do not save personal login credentials, and take appropriate security precautions.
For Faculty and Staff (TUMail)
Please refer to the following guide:
TUMail User Manual (English)
See the instructions for signing in to TUMail.
For Students (DCMail)
Please refer to the following guide:
DCMail Online Guide (English)
See "3. Initial settings/login method."
When you sign in for the first time, you will be prompted to change your password. Follow the on-screen instructions to set a new password.
You will use this new password whenever you sign in to Google Workspace.
Keep your password secure and do not share it with anyone.
Two-Step Verification (2SV) is mandatory for Google Workspace accounts to enhance account security.
All users must enable Two-Step Verification.
We also recommend registering multiple verification methods and saving backup codes in case you change or lose your smartphone or can no longer use your usual verification method.
Setup Deadlines
The deadlines for enabling Two-Step Verification are as follows:
Existing accounts: By October 31, 2026
New accounts issued from November 2026 onward: Within approximately 14 days of account issuance
