Classroom doors open at 7:30am for students to arrive, unpack, and get ready for the day. From 7:15-7:30 students will be able to sit on the lanai with staff supervision until classroom doors open. Students are expected to be in the classroom no later than 7:50. If your child is going to be absent on a particular day, please contact the office and the teacher ahead of time, with a reason for the absence. Students arriving after 7:50 must go to the office to check in. School ends at 2:20pm (1:20 on Wednesdays), and students can be picked up outside of the First Grade classroom. If you plan to pick up your child through the Car Line, please let me know ahead of time. Older siblings should pick up first graders from the classroom door if they are riding in Car Line together. If students are not picked up within 15 minutes of dismissal time, they will go to the After School Care Program and will be charged accordingly.
Attached you will find a copy of our weekly schedule. It is a flexible schedule, as we will be doing project based learning this year, incorporating content matter across all subject areas and participating in various thematic units. Your child will have PE on Mondays and Fridays with Mrs. Serrano. PE uniforms need to be worn on Mondays and Fridays. Music is on Tuesdays and Thursday with Mrs. Gronic. Art is on Fridays with Mrs. Olsen. We will integrate computer instruction through the use of Ipads in the classroom, and we will have access to the Computer Lab as needed. On Tuesdays we will have Library, and the students will be able to check out two books of their choice each week. Trinity polo shirts and dress bottoms need to be worn on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Every Monday you will receive a weekly First Grade Email. In this email you will find all the important announcements and information for the upcoming week. The class website will also include all the information you need for the week, including announcements, spelling lists (beginning second quarter), and memory verses. I will also notify you of upcoming events happening at school and in class. Emails may be sent out other days during the week as important questions, concerns, and announcements arise. Please also check take home folders for personal notes as well.
Students will have a folder they will take home each night that will include a “LEFT” at home side and “RIGHT” back to school side. This folder allows us to communicate on a daily basis and will contain the reading log, sight word lists, and memory verses. It may also include a behavior report, important papers that need signing, completed daily practice work, or incomplete work that needs to be finished.
Every Friday your child will bring home a plastic envelope. In the envelope will be school memos and graded assignments from that week. Please place your initial on the appropriate date and have your child return it to school the following Monday. Friday folders are a wonderful way for you to see what your child is learning and how he/she is doing in class.
Every Tuesday our class will have the opportunity to go the the School Library and check out books. Please have your child return library books a week after they are brought home, or sooner, whether they are finished reading it or not. The library policy is books cannot be checked out any longer than seven days. If your child has not finished reading the book, it can be re-checked out once it is returned. Families are responsible for paying the cost of lost or damaged library books.
Each day we will have snack time in the classroom. It will be before morning recess for about 10 minutes. Students are encouraged to bring their own healthy snack, such as fruits, vegetables, or crackers. Please pack one snack each day that does not require utensils, can be opened by the student, and is easy to clean up. Your child uses a large amount of energy during the day and needs “fuel” to function at optimum level. Discuss with your child what kinds of food he/she likes to have for snack/lunch. Please also bring a water bottle for your child to drink in the classroom. Not other drinks may be consumed inside the classroom, unless approved by Mrs. Clifford. Encourage your child to eat the entire snack/lunch.
We love birthdays! Children may bring treats to share with the class on their birthday. Birthdays may be celebrated during morning snack, during lunch time, or at the end of the day. If you are planning to pass out birthday invitations at Trinity, you must have an invitation for every student in the class.
