A: For the record, there are about three different doctors that are named Dr. Wilson that I know of, and they all do different works.
This particular Dr. Wilson whom you are referring to, has unfortunately had his medical license revoked, as one of his patients died on the Wilson protocol. For this reason, I’ve personally just stayed away from it. Furthermore, from my understanding, Hashimoto’s and Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome are two separate conditions.
I’m sure there are lots of people that have been helped by it, and that some doctors are using it very safely. But as a pharmacist, I get really nervous when I hear things like this. My primary goal is to only recommend safe interventions to people.
There are, however, other strategies you can implement, to help convert T4 to T3.
First things first, when reverse T3 is elevated, that’s a sign of underlying adrenal issues at play. Getting on adrenal supporting supplements (as recommended in this program) can sometimes help with that. Rootcology Adrenal Support contains a great combination of adrenal adaptogens that I like, and that can make a big difference.
I would also look into other possible root causes of poor T3 to T4 conversion, including:
Alcohol consumption
Cigarette use
Diabetes
Fasting
Heavy metal toxicity
Iodine excess
Kidney and liver disease
Low progesterone levels
Nutrient depletions
Obesity
Pesticides (often found in non-organic foods)
Radiation
Stress
Soy consumption
I also suggest checking out my article on optimizing thyroid medications, to see if there is another option out there that might be better absorbed by your body.
