A: Yes, I do think your symptom flare up could have been related to the adrenals.
When our adrenals and thyroid have been slow for a while, things are kind of in their own little equilibrium. However, once we start getting more thyroid hormone on board, more cortisol is going to be excreted from the body. Cortisol is an important adrenal hormone; we need to have just the right amount of it.
I would recommend asking your doctor to test you for Addison’s disease (by checking for 21-hydroxylase antibodies), just to make sure that’s not an issue for you. Some people might have both Addison’s and Hashimoto’s. If this is the case for you, you’ll want to be on a medication like hydrocortisone. You’ll also want to make sure you support your adrenals with the ABC’s of adrenals - adaptogens, B vitamins, and vitamin C.
In the meantime, there are some things you can do before you get tested.
First and foremost, getting enough sleep is really important.
If you haven’t already tried the supplements recommended in this program, I definitely recommend trying Rootcology Adrenal Support (and bonus, this covers the ABC’s!).
Upping your magnesium intake with Epsom salt baths and Rootcology Magnesium Citrate Powder at bedtime, can also be helpful.
