A: I have been able to get rid of all of the symptoms that I had with Hashimoto's, so I'm very grateful for that. I do take thyroid hormone medications. I am a big advocate of making sure that you are properly supported, especially when you've had enough of your thyroid gland damaged by thyroid antibodies for a long enough time. I wish I had known about the combination of myo-inositol and selenium back when I was newly diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism, as it can normalize thyroid function and prevent the need for thyroid medication for some people– certainly not for everybody, but for some people it can. Unfortunately, I didn't know about that when I first was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and had an elevated TSH and had high levels of thyroid antibodies.
I definitely will say that for most people it's possible to get into remission and feel their best. For some people it's going to be possible to wean off of thyroid medications. I have certainly had people do that, unless of course they've had their thyroid gland removed. I will say, though, it's much easier to do so if you're in the early stages, when your thyroid gland has not been affected too much. Having said that, I've also had people who had thyroid issues for a long time and they were able to completely reverse it.
So, I definitely believe that you can heal, and I actually encourage everybody that goes through this program to make sure they're testing their thyroid function because since I started recommending Myo-inositol people do see a lot of improvements in their TSH. Sometimes that can mean that they need to reduce their levels of thyroid hormones, and they can actually become overmedicated for some time, which isn't good.
