A: Pregnenolone and DHEA are going to have a similar effect to Florinef, which is often prescribed alongside hydrocortisone. Sometimes, when adrenal fatigue is advanced and a person has very low total cortisol levels, hydrocortisone may be indicated. It converts directly to cortisone in the body.
Pregnenolone has to go through a few steps to turn into cortisol in the body. I don’t have a lot of experience with Florinef for adrenal fatigue, though it is very effective for Addison's, an autoimmune adrenal condition. If your doctor feels comfortable with it, and has had experience and good results with it, then that may be something to explore. Your chiropractor will likely be more comfortable with pregnenolone and DHEA because of his/her prescriptive ability. Chiropractors are not allowed to prescribe medications like hydrocortisone or Florinef.
