A: So it really depends on what stage of adrenal dysfunction you are in. So some people when they have high cortisol running can be very helpful. This is what helps to get their cortisol into balance. Then I have people with really low cortisol levels and they basically hurt themselves further. They hurt their cortisol levels further by doing excessive aerobic exercise such as running or biking.
When it comes to exercise, a rule of thumb is that you should be able to do the exercise once more after you are done, to determine if the exercise is right for you. If you can answer “yes” and you feel well, then you’ve found the right exercise for your body, at the right time, in the right amount. If not, you will then want to give yourself time to recuperate and try a different exercise, or lessen the amount
I have a Troubleshooting Cortisol Levels Guide in the portal under the Handouts tab. It can give you a little more context as to whether or not you might have high cortisol or low cortisol.
