A: No, it does not replace it. Myo-Inositol and Selenium are two different supplements with different benefits. However, they can work together in synergy, which is why Dr. Wentz has formulated a supplement called Selenium + Myo-Inositol by Rootocology, which contains both in a specific ratio that in scientific research has shown great results when it comes to regulating thyroid function.
Selenium by itself is known to reduce thyroid antibodies up to 40% and can help the body convert inactive T4 to active T3. Myo-Inositol may help with sugar imbalance, supports optimal thyroid antibody and TSH levels, as well as alleviates mood symptoms associated with anxiety, mood swings, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. Research has also found that myo-inositol relieves menstrual irregularities, acne, insulin resistance, and weight gain associated with PCOS.
One could take the two supplements separately (200-400 mcg of Selenium in the morning and 700 mg of Myo-Inositol at bedtime), or just take 1 capsule of Selenium + Myo-Inositol with a meal.
