A: It sounds like your body is producing too much histamine. There are some histamine producing bacteria and parasites in the gut, and some of them are known to be common Hashimoto's triggers. These are H. pylori (about 30% of people with Hashimoto’s have it), Dientamoeba fragilis, Blastocistis hominis (also connected to urticaria and present in about 30% of people with Hashimoto's), and mold. These are some potential root causes of both Hashimoto's and histamine issues. Another cause could be related to insufficient DAO (diamine oxidase), which is an enzyme produced by healthy gut cells that breaks down histamine in the small intestine. In this case, taking DAO enzymes with high histamine foods can help with sensitivity.
In my new Gut Recovery Program, I address these root causes and histamine intolerance. If you figure out the root cause of your histamine issues, and you treat it, you may be able to reintroduce some of the foods that you’ve had to eliminate due to your sensitivity.
