Q: What are the tests for Addison’s? Which would you recommend?
A: The 21 hydroxylase antibodies are the antibodies that are elevated in Addison’s disease. That is something you can ask your doctor for; and he or she may not be familiar with it. The other test would be for cortisol in your blood. They would know what it means to test for Addison’s. Usually, it is the test that doctors will give people when they ask to have their adrenals tested. It always comes out normal unless you have Addison’s. Getting the hydroxylase antibodies, and the blood cortisol, is helpful to make sure that you’re treated appropriately. Doing adrenal adaptogens and these other interventions can really help adrenal fatigue, but they are not enough for Addison’s.
