Q: My TSH, T3 and T4 are all low. In the past, my TSH has always been high. What could be causing this? Could a pituitary issue develop many years after Hashimoto’s?
A: That can be a pituitary issue, for sure. I’ve seen it happen just all of a sudden. Sometimes it’s a lot of stress, sometimes it’s different nutrients, sometimes it’s toxins; other times it’s doses of medications that are too high – steroids, adrenal supplements. All of these different things can actually contribute to pituitary issues. I would recommend that you do that DUTCH test, especially if you have a low TSH, low T3, low T4, and then also, potentially, low adrenal function and sometimes issues with sex hormones as well. I don’t know which one it necessarily is, Hypothalamic or pituitary issue, but the DUTCH testing will reveal it. Then, you can talk to one of their clinicians who can actually give you protocols based on your test results, which is really helpful. You can find the link for the DUTCH Test here.
