A: According to Dr. Wentz's research, fruits and vegetables can be combined in smoothies without any issues. There seems to be a school of thought behind food-combining diets that prefers not to mix them together for whatever reason. They have their research; we have ours. In our experience, there seems to be no issue with eating them together. Occasionally, when someone does have a digestive issue with either fruits or vegetables or fiber in general, it’s connected with individual enzyme deficiencies. Enzymes can be restored with enzyme supplements such as Veggie Enzymes.
As far as starting with just orange juice in the morning and then the smoothie 15 minutes after, you want to be careful with just drinking straight juice because that could definitely spike your blood sugar. That's why we combine it with the fats and the protein in the kickstart. So, play around with that and see how you feel, but I would definitely recommend combining the juice with the fats and the protein.
