What will I do in GCSE Dance?
The GCSE Dance course focuses on the aesthetic and artistic qualities of dance and the use of movement to express and communicate ideas and concepts through the process of performance, choreography and critical appreciation.
The course is divided into two components. Each component has a specific dance focus.
Component 1: Performance and Choreography (Practical Coursework) 60% of GCSE.
What's assessed;
Performance 30% of GCSE and 40 marks.
Two set phrases through a solo performance (approximately one minute in duration)
Duet/trio performance (approximatly three minutes in duration)
Choreography 30% of GCSE and 40 Marks.
Solo or group choreography based on a choice of 5 stimuli. (two to two and a half minutes)
Unit 1 is internally assessed as course work and is then sent off to an external moderator to be verified.

Component 2: Dance Appreciation (Theoretical examinaton) 40% of GCSE.
What's assessed;
Knowledge and understanding of choreographic processes and performing skills.
Critical appreciation or own work.
Critical appreciation or professional works.
Component two is assessed through a written exam paper in year 11. The paper is 1 hour and 30 minutes long and is out of 80 marks.
The GCSE Dance course is split 40% theory and 60% practical so will do 2 theory lessons a fortnight and 3 practical lessons.
