What will I do in this GCSE?
In Key Stage 4, students develop further their knowledge and understanding of the different strands of the Mathematics: Number, Algebra, Ratio and Proportion, Geometry and Measure, Probability and Statistics. You will continue to learn the following skills: Numeracy, Logical Thinking and Problem Solving.
How will I be assessed?
Students will be entered for the AQA GCSE Mathematics examination at either Higher or Foundation Tier. They will sit three ‘end of course’ examination papers, each worth a third of the final GCSE grade. Two calculator, one non-calculator paper.
The new GCSE syllabus will involve functional Mathematics i.e., real life contexts and making decisions on how to use information given.
Is there anything else I should consider and what are the career pathways?
GCSE Mathematics is a qualification that is required by virtually all employers. They value high standards of numeracy, the ability to think and plan logically, and to solve problems. GCSE Mathematics is frequently a necessary requirement for entry to further and higher education. Mathematical skills are used in finance, engineering, design, medicine, management, economics, computing and social science. Students intending to study A-level Mathematics in the Sixth Form should be aiming for a grade 7 or above. We have an increasing number of students at post-16 who take Core Mathematics, having achieved a grade 5 or above at GCSE.
