Science Combined
AQA Trilogy
AQA Trilogy identifies the activities and experiences students will come across in everyday life, and links these to scientific ideas and their implications for society. It provides the opportunity to acquire the scientific skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for life as a citizen. Pupils are encouraged to explore the complex and diverse phenomena of the natural world and how it can be described in terms of a small number of key ideas relating to the sciences which are both inter-linked, and are of universal application. Here at Streetly we pride ourselves on trying to show how Science applies to everyday life.

Frequently Asked questions about GCSE science
What's the difference between triple science and combined science?
In triple science there are three GCSEs (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) in combined science you are taught all 3 sciences but you get 2 GCSEs because the content in combined science is less than triple science.
Can I choose to do triple science?
The decision to do triple science is one that is made between the students, parents and their science teachers, students need to be working at ‘exceeding’ to be considered. The course covers all three sciences in more depth and breadth than combined science so a good understanding of the basic science principle is required.
When is the decision about triple science made made?
We will start having conversations with students at the beginning of June and will make the final decisions by the end of June.
Will I have to do extra work after school if I do triple science?
All the triple science content will be covered in normal lesson time.
What grade do I need to be working at to do triple science?
You need to be working at ‘exceeding’ to do triple science.
Do I have to do triple science?
No you don’t have to do it but if you are asked to do it it is because we really believe you can do it. Triple science looks great on a C.V!
Can I still do A level sciences if I don’t do triple?
Yes you can do A level sciences if you don’t do triple science, you need to achieve a 7/7 in combined science to do A Level sciences at Streetly.
What are the exams like?
For triple science there are 6 exams, 2 biology, 2 chemistry and 2 physics. Each exam is 1 hour 45 minutes long. For combined science there are 6 exams, 2 biology, 2 chemistry and 2 physics. Each exam is 1 hour and 15 minutes long.
What specification do we use?
We use AQA for both combined and triple science.
