Throughout the course you will study two units:
Theme 1: Investigating small business - this assessed by a written examination which lasts for 1 hour and 45 minutes and is worth 50% of the qualification. The paper has a total of 90 marks.
In theme 1 you will learn about:
Enterprise and entrepreneurship
Spotting a business opportunity
Putting a business idea into practice
Making the business effective
Understanding business influences
Theme 2: Building a business - this assessed by a written examination which lasts for 1 hour and 45 minutes and is worth 50% of the qualification. The paper has a total of 90 marks.
In theme 2 you will learn about:
Growing the business
Making marketing decisions
Making operational decisions
Making financial decisions
Making human resource decisions
Both papers will consist of calculations, multiple-choice, short-answer and extended-writing questions
Is there anything else I should consider and what are the career pathways?
Candidates should be enthusiastic about learning new concepts and demonstrate an ability to provide strong written skills as the subject requires analytical thinking and well reasoned responses to business situations. It is vital to stress that sound written skills are required on this course.
In order to make sense of the modern world, students need a basic understanding of business. A good grade in this course will help you move onto any AS, A level or vocational A level, especially in Business Studies. It will provide a basis for many employment opportunities where your business skills will be valued.
