Year 4

By Year 4, the children are becoming much more independent in their language acquisition. During this year, the children are introduced to a group of masculine and feminine animal nouns, which they use to create more complex sentences. The children use their previously acquired phonic knowledge to pronounce the new vocabulary. They then create sentences with adjectives of colour and size, focusing on adjectival agreement and the position within the sentence.

We use the story Ours brun, dis moi... as a scafold for writing stories, practising descriptive sentences about animals.

The verb avoir is introduced, along side plural pronouns and the children are introduced to many more French questions which they are encouraged to ask and answer, working in pairs and together as a whole class.
