International School Award

The International School Award is a British Council accreditation scheme rewarding those schools with a notable global element in their curriculum. The aim is to encourage our children to celebrate difference and diversity and to develop into caring, respectful global citizens who actively participate in all areas of the local community, whilst developing an understanding of their contribution to the wider world. In a globalized world that is becoming increasingly connected, at WHA we believe it is important to give children a head start in language acquisition and learning about other cultures within our world.

At WHA, we work on projects across the school, such as raising money for Action Aid, whole school language days, learning about being a global citizen through Votes for Schools, litter picking and environmental days. We have also formed partnership schools around the world. We have corresonded in French with children in Belgium. We have entered an international competition focusing on gender equality with a school in Tanzania and over the last couple of years, we have formed a partnership with a French school in Lyon. We use a digital platform to correspond with a class, enabling our older children to put their French skills into practice.

There are three entry points for schools to achieve the International School Award: Foundation, Intermediate, and Accreditation. We have achieved the Intermediate Level Award, which is the stepping stone to working towards full accreditation.
