Year 2

Language learning requires regular revisiting of vocabulary and sentences structures. In Year 2, the children consolidate and build upon learning from Year 1 and informally start their journey looking at how words are written in French. There is a greater focus on simple sentence construction, within the context of vocabulary associated with clothing and items in the pencil case, using sentence starters such as J'ai... Tu as... Je mets .... and Tu mets. Simple grammatical concepts are gradually introduced, such as gender of nouns and singular/plural nouns. The children explore Francophone countries and learn the days of the week, in preparation for future work in Year 3.

In Year 2, the children experiment with writing on whiteboards, by making physical sentences in groups and by spelling words with split phonemes.
