Year 4

In the dense green Amazon rainforest, a man has come to chop down a great kapok tree.  When he lies down to rest, the creatures that inhabit the tree and the surrounding forest come to whisper in his ear, each in it’s own fashion, begging him to spare their home. 

It is AD 51 and Deri is a slave, a prisoner of Rome, but dreams of one day returning to his homeland, Britannia, to fight against the Romans. When the proud young slave is overheard criticising Rome, he is thrown into prison and faces execution the next day. Luckily, his cellmate Caratacus is a very special prisoner indeed - a British chief. He believes he has a way to save both their skins, but he'll need Deri's help.

Joseph shares some of his culture and heritage e.g. in the poem ‘Little bit of Food’ he writes about fufu (a West African dough).
