Main idea:
Simone Biles won the most medals out of all female gymnasts in the whole world. Simone Biles was born on March 14 in 1997 in Columbus, Ohio USA. Her birth mother couldn’t take care of her and so her grandparents adopted her in Spring, Texas with her sister.
Background information
Simone had 3 siblings; her older brother and older sister moved to foster care and then she was with her little sister. She moved to Spring, Texas when she was two with her sister. Then they lived with their grandparents.
When Simone was six years old her school took a trip to a local gym. When Simone was six she had a natural talent for gymnastics. When she was eight, a local coach got her attention and she began practicing with her sister. When she got better her routines got harder and she had more practice time.
Olympic years:
In the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro,Brazil, Simone Biles won a team gold medal and won an individual gold medal in the all-around for vault, floor exercise, and balance beam. In 2019, Simone Biles became the first gymnast to win 5 world championships in the all-around event. Simone Biles also won in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018. Simone Biles was the first African American to hold the women's world all-around title.
Challenges Simone faced:
At the 2021 Summer Olympics games in Tokyo, a lot of people were cheering for Simone and she felt overwhelmed. She got the twisties. Twisties are something that make gymnasts want to do something but they can't do it. Simone missed some Olympics challenges that were happening and because of the twisties she stopped for a couple weeks. She started competing again after two weeks. Simone went on to win a bronze on the balance beam. Simone Biles also won a team silver medal.
