Main idea
Harriet Tubman was a former slave and a terrific woman who freed 750 slaves. She fought for women's rights to vote.
Childhood
Harriet’s parents were slaves. From a young age, Harriet was made to work. She was born around 1822. She had 8 brothers and sisters. She had to watch over a baby and was punished if the baby cried. She tried to escape from her slave owner.
Challenges
She was a slave and saw her brothers and sisters sold. She was wanted by the law when she escaped. She had to pretend she was not Harriet. She did not know how to read. Two men thought she was Harriet, lucky for her she had a book. She pretended to read it and the two men did not think it was her.
Fun Facts
Harriet Tubman was a nurse/scout/spy/abolitionist. They called her Minty when she was young.

She risked her own life to free 750 slaves in the underground railroad.
She inspired slaves to come with her to freedom.
Relevance into today
One question I would ask Harriet? "Did you really want to leave your husband."
She left her husband that must have been scary. But she did it to earn her own freedom and to help others be free.
