All Chromebooks delivered through the TKA scheme will be managed by the school. This is to ensure that they are used appropriately. Chromebooks require internet connectivity to work fully. When a device goes online, it collects a number of settings which are then applied to the device. All devices will be pre-configured to use the TKA wireless network.
TKA devices will only work with TKA Google accounts. Personal accounts cannot be used to sign in.
They can be used at home with WiFi, but you will need to connect to your home WiFi network by clicking on its name in the networks list and supplying the password when you want to use it.
All devices have filtering and monitoring software as a mandatory installation. Even if the user disables or uninstalls it (which in normal usage should not be possible) then it will be reinstalled when the device next goes online. Devices where this software (GoGuardian) is not running are not allowed to connect to TKA's network.
All web page requests are subject to filtering, whether the device is on the TKA network or elsewhere.
Chromebooks are disabled remotely in the case of loss or theft. This renders the device completely useless to anyone and even a reset to factory settings will not get round this. This means that a disabled Chromebook is of no use to would-be thieves. In addition, we can apply theft recovery settings that will report the device's location and any attempts to use a Google account on it.
We have the following Chromebook models in circulation:
Asus C202, Asus C213 and Lenovo N21. These devices are no longer available as new to pupils, but some remain in our loan pool.
Asus C214. This is the device currently provided to new pupils joining the school.
Asus CR1. This device will be rolled out from Summer 2023 and will be the device that Year 7 pupils joining in September 2023 will get. From September 2025, pupils will receive a slightly updated version, CR1100.
