This page details what happens when a child leaves The Kingston Academy. It does not apply if the child is temporarily away or on long term absence; in such cases the TKA Google account will be suspended but will not be removed, in anticipation of the pupil's return.
All Chromebooks provided as part of our in-house scheme belong to the child and parents/carers. When your child leaves our school:
The management of the Chromebook is removed (in a process called deprovisioning). You should perform a wipe to return the device to a state where it behaves like a consumer device straight from the box. Full details can be found on Google's help pages.
The device will no longer automatically connect to our network.
Any loan devices must be returned to Digital Services on or before the leaving date.
Please note that a wipe is a slightly different procedure to a Powerwash that you may see referenced online. If you are unable to perform the wipe procedure, it may be that the device has not been deprovisioned. This is most likely if you see a message that you are blocked from entering developer mode.
Devices that have not been paid for, or have outstanding amounts owing on them, will not be deprovisioned. We will not deprovision a device where the pupil has an additional loan device that has not been returned.
All members of the TKA community will have a Google account that is managed by the school. If a person with a TKA account leaves the school, there is a process to remove access to it.
The account will initially be suspended. From this point, the account holder will no longer be able to sign in to it or use it as a single sign on to other websites. For pupils who leave at the end of a term, the suspension usually takes place at the official end of the term. This includes the holiday period after the school breaks up, giving ample time for any data that you wish to keep to be downloaded.
After approximately four weeks, the account will be deleted. At this point, it cannot be used at all. However, it is held in a "recycle bin" in case this has been done in error.
Twenty days after the deletion, the account and all data associated with it will be permanently removed. At this point, the data has gone and cannot be recovered.
For reasons of security and compliance with data protection, we do not allow people who are not a current member of The Kingston Academy to have access to their TKA Google account (or any other accounts that provide access to our systems). Your statutory rights are not affected.
