What do I do if there is a fault or problem with a Chromebook?
In the first instance, you may want to take your device to the IT technical support person in Pupil Services, to see if there is a quick fix. At this point you will be advised on your best course of action to remedy the issue that you have. Further details can be found in the Repairs page.
Is the Chromebook mine?
Yes, for all devices in the TKA in-house scheme, you have paid for the Chromebook and you own the device. However, as a condition of use on TKA's network, we will manage the device to ensure that use is appropriate, safe and secure. This does mean that you are free to source your own hardware repairs if you wish.
I have lost the charger for my Chromebook.
Unfortunately we do not carry a spare stock of chargers. Please refer to the Models section of this site to determine the charger's model number. You will then need to replace the charger at your own expense.
I am on a low income and have trouble affording to join a scheme.
If your child has been eligible for free school meals in the past 6 years, we may be able to offer a subsidy for you to join the scheme. Please contact Pupil Services who will be able to help.
Why can't I purchase a Chromebook from my own preferred retailer for my child?
The TKA Chromebook scheme offers more than just a device. For your child's online safety and security we set up management of their device and also install software that will filter their browsing and monitor their activity when in school. We also supply a case, repair with no labour cost and access to a pool of loan machines. We are also able to provide support for the device through our Digital Support team, as they are familiar with the operation and repair of the devices supplied. These factors are why the cost of joining the scheme is greater than the cost of a single consumer device.
My child's Chromebook is damaged beyond repair. What can I do?
We can replace Chromebooks with a new device. In the first instance, contact Digital Services and they will be able to advise you. For parents/carers who are already part of the Chromebook scheme, you will be charged for the replacement device but you will not need to pay again for the other costs, such as software licensing. Therefore the cost of a replacement Chromebook will be less than the initial cost to join the scheme.
What happens to the device when my child leaves the school?
For all devices that have been paid for in full , we remotely remove our management of the device. You are then free to use it as you wish and it operates as a standard consumer Chromebook. For more details, please see the page Leaving TKA. This does not apply when a pupil also has an unreturned loan device.
What does device management mean?
We have a statutory requirement to filter and monitor IT activity on our network. We achieve this using specialist software that logs a number of online activities and flags any potential safeguarding concerns or inappropriate online behaviours. The filtering remains in place at all times when the device is used. In addition, we have taken a policy decision to block use of the device between 22:00 and 06:00 to support student wellbeing.Â
