1.1.13 Describe a range of methods that can be used to prevent data loss
Data loss can be prevented through simple precautionary measures such as making regular backup of files using hard disks or magnetic tapes, installing firewalls to control network traffic, using two or more locations for backup storage (offsite storage) or using mirror backup, making printed copies of data, and using antivirus for data protection.
A failover system is a standby/redundant system; Which is used to eliminate/reduce the impact on users/owners; By automatically taking over if the primary system suddenly becomes unavailable;
In computing, failover is switching to a redundant or standby computer server, system, hardware component or network upon the failure or abnormal termination of the previously active application, server, system, hardware component, or network.
redundancy is the duplication of critical components or functions of a system with the intention of increasing reliability of the system, usually in the form of a backup or fail-safe
Removable media are data storage devices capable of computer system removal without powering off the system. Removable media devices are used for backup, storage or transportation of data. In addition to portability advantages, removable media are capable of fast data backup and recovery, which are essential corporate requirements. One disadvantage is that removable media are more expensive than data tape.
Physically remote facility or site equipped to provide protected storage for magnetic/optical media, microfilm, and paper records. Some sites also rent space on their hard drives or tapes on which customers can download data via internet or other network for backup storage.
