When reading each text:
Skim read the text, take note of the title and any explanations given at the top of the page.
Re-read again to gain a better understanding of the text.
Re-read again and identify language features and highlight/underline key phrases in the text.
Read question a) and make sure your short answer aligns with the question being asked.
Read question b) and pick out 2-3 language features to write about.
Brainstorm your ideas for your long answer essay
Use the sentence starters to help you write your long answer essay.
We will doing revision exercises in class. You also have work in your Google Drive that should be done outside of class time.

We are focusing on Formal Writing for Term 3.
We are continuing to learn about an historical event or place that we began researching in our History classes last term. These events and places will be the focus for our writing essays.
A copy of the Task Booklet has been added to your Goole drive (Ingarihi folder). We will work through the tasks to help write a formal essay.

Aim to make 10 changes that IMPROVE YOUR WRITING
Include language features that enhance the Reader's interest of your story and use a wide range of words and sentences that give impact.
Make your description and characters seem believable and real. Remember to 'SHOW' rather the 'tell' your Story. Use descriptive words to provoke emotion.
Write using the same 'tense' throughout your story.
Check punctuation and spelling prior to sending.
