In second grade, students will explore through singing, rhythm and musical games, listening, storytelling through music, and sharing talents. We'll learn some music history, read standard music notation, and continue instrumental performance. Students will share what they've learned in their quarterly assemblies!
RHYTHM Rhythm vs. beat, simple quadruple (4/4) meter, more rhythms (half note, sixteenth notes)
MELODY Review Sol, Mi, and La. Introduce songs with Do and Re.
FORM Recognize various phrasing patterns with A and B sections
TEXTURE & HARMONY Layered rhythmic ostinati, vocal ostinato and partner songs, level bordun (instrumental patterns)
INSTRUMENTS Continue reading music with xylophones, bells, and boomwhackers
