In first grade, students will explore through singing, rhythm and musical games, listening, storytelling through music, and sharing talents. We'll begin reading standard music notation and introduce instrumental performance. Students will share what they've learned in their quarterly assemblies!
RHYTHM Rhythm vs. beat, simple duple (2/4) meter, beginning rhythm values (quarter note, quarter rest, eighth notes)
MELODY Learn songs featuring Sol, Mi, and La
FORM Different/same, AB forms
TEXTURE & HARMONY Creating rhythmic ostinatos, chord and broken bordun (instrumental patterns).
INSTRUMENTS Introduction to reading music with xylophones, bells, and boomwhackers
