What type of certification will I get with TAP's assistance?
What type of certification will I get with TAP's assistance?
There are two types of certifications in the state of Florida.
✅ Temporary Certificate
TAP helps you obtain a Temporary Certificate, which is valid for five school years and is non-renewable.
❌ Professional Certificate
TAP does not support obtaining the Professional Certificate. However, through our mentorship program, TAP connects candidates with other organizations that assist in acquiring the Professional Certificate.
When can I submit for the temporary certification?
It is essential that you strictly follow the submission timeline to avoid any delays that could jeopardize the issuance of your temporary teaching certificate from the State of Florida. You have 2 options:
AFTER you have passed your Subject Area Exam
Once you have passed your Subject Area Exam and have your bachelor's degree, you can submit your official transcripts to the state to get a Statement of Eligibility.
Degree from "Teachable Major"
Once you graduate with a a degree from a teachable major (or if you already have one), you can submit your official transcripts to the state. They will decide if your degree aligns to the subject area you would like to teach.
How do I submit for temporary certification?
You should submit a certification application AFTER you've passed your Subject Area Exam or if you have a teachable major.
Certification Fee: The certification fee is $75. Authorize payment of non-refundable application processing fees using your VISA or MasterCard credit card. An application is NOT complete until the FLDOE receives the application, fee, and official transcripts.
Click on the document below for a step-by-step guide on how to create a profile. You can also view this step-by-step video.
There are THREE parts to the certification application:
Application 2. Payment for Application 3. Official Transcripts
Without all three parts of the application completed, you have NOT submitted your application.
There are TWO options to send sealed hard copy of official, degree-conferred transcripts:
1. BY MAIL:
Bureau of Educator Certification
Room 201, Turlington Building
325 West Gaines Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399-0400
OR
2. Electronically Directly from the Institution:
(*FIU transcripts are best sent via mail.*)
TO: Bureau of Educator Certification
Important to Note:
Do NOT submit your transcripts until you've paid and submitted your application.
Parchment: *FIU transcripts only* If you are requesting transcripts from Parchment, they can only receive them physically, not electronically.
If you received your academic training outside the United States, select “Outside of the U.S.” as the state and-or country. This option is the last selection in the drop-down list.
Timeline: The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) can take up to 4–6 weeks to send a letter of eligibility for a temporary teaching certificate after receiving ALL application materials (online application, fee, and official transcripts).
🚨 Attention Undergraduates 🚨
You should only be starting this process if your degree has been conferred on your official transcripts.
🚨 Attention Candidates with Foreign Transcripts🚨
When you have foreign academic training, you must provide an original credential evaluation to ensure it’s acceptable and equivalent to a U.S. degree. The FLDOE will NOT return these to you.
