TDSB SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS

Dual Credit & SWAC (School Within a College)

Dual Credit programs allow students to take a course earning BOTH a secondary high school credit AND a college credit.  Students are able to take a college level course in a variety of areas to experience something they are considering as a career path. Courses are approved by the Ministry of Education that count towards both their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and a post secondary certificate, diploma, or degree, or a Certificate of Apprenticeship.

SWAC: Provides students between the ages of 17-20 the opportunity to earn secondary school credits and two-three college-delivered Dual Credits on a college campus, which count towards their OSSD AND college transcript. The primary focus of the SWAC program is to provide students who are disengaged with an opportunity to learn in a new adult setting while being able to experience college.

STEP (Specialized Trades Exploration Programs)

I'm interested in a trade but unsure which one in the construction industry.  I’d really like to try them all out for a couple of weeks at a time and see which one is really for me.

I'm interested in a trade but unsure which one in the transportation industry.  I’d really like to try them all out for a couple of weeks at a time and see which one is really for me.

OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs)

I want to start my apprenticeship while I’m still in high school.  I’ll learn on the job from a licensed tradesperson.  I’d also like to go to College or a Union training centre to get my Level 1 training in the trade that I am sure I want to pursue.

I want to give it a try and see if I like working in the skilled trades before I really commit to a career as a tradesperson.  I’d like a skilled trade placement in co-op where I learn from a qualified tradesperson. This is a great place to start your journey.

I want to go to a Technical High School and get more credits towards graduation.  I’d be learning about the trade that I’m really interested in from a licensed tradesperson as well as some time spent learning on the job at a co-op placement.

I would still like to be in a school environment but I’d also like to spend time with a tradesperson fixing schools and getting a feel for what working in the trades is like.
